G.4.15 – Windows Installation Issues – Part 3

Introduction:

Window is a building component, which is generally used for closing an opening in a wall that will admit light and may provide ventilation and views to the building occupants. Windows are typically factory produced unit that has one or more openings bounded by a perimeter frame. Performance of a window may be assessed as an independent unit.

Insulation, cavity barriers, and cavity closers are often used at locations where the windows interfaces with various other façade types such as rainscreen, brickwork and etc… In this article, attempts were made to discuss some of the most common design and installation workmanship issues in relation to these components using real life examples of the author. Additionally, some of the issues faced while temporarily protecting the windows during the construction have also been discussed.
